London is a thrilling place to visit whatever the time of year, but there’s nothing quite like experiencing a typical British winter in the capital. Here’s just a small selection of activities that you won’t want to miss – and even the cold British weather can’t spoil!
A crisp walk in the park
London’s green spaces are beautiful in every season but a brisk, refreshing walk through one of London’s many parks in the winter air is definitely an experience. And best of all it’s free.
Winter Wonderland
Christmas markets are in abundance across the UK during the winter months; however Winter Wonderland in London’s Hyde Park is the biggest of them all! Highlights include skating, mulled wine, circus shows and the giant wheel, with all at a price, but the market site itself is free to enter, so even if you just stroll around and take in the atmosphere, it’s an experience you don’t want to miss.
A cosy pub
There’s nothing better than warming up after a brisk, winter walk than a mulled wine in front of a roaring fire, so why not escape from the cold into the cosiness of a traditional London pub? From National Trust-owned, The George Inn at London Bridge, to The Plough just a short walk from Richmond Park, you can enjoy the warmth – from the welcome to the interiors and the food – at many a pub this winter in London.
Take in a show
If you want to escape from the cold for a few hours while experiencing the best of British culture, then head straight for the famous West End. If you can wait until the pre-Christmas rush is over, there’s less of a demand for tickets and you may find yourself getting a ticket for a top show at a fraction of the price.
Christmas Shopping
You’ve not shopped until you’ve been down Oxford Street, and at Christmas time, it’s a whole other experience. You’ll likely be battling the crowds, but under the twinkling lights, beautifully decorated shops and buzz of Christmas in the air, you can’t help but get into the Christmas spirit.
